Snout Rot

Snout Rot is thought to be a secondary infection, caused by the bacteria Vibrio, which targets the snout of the seahorse. It can be particularly problematic on two accounts; it is generally a fast moving disease and it interferes with the seahorse's ability to eat. In the beginning, the snout can appear slightly white or pink tinged with maybe scant swelling. Untreated, the condition nearly always progresses to eventual erosion of the entire snout. Because the infection is so aggressive, it is imperative that steps be taken to treat the seahorse for vibrio infection at the first sign of symptoms because even if the disease is later arrested, the damage to the snout may already be so severe that resuming normal feeding behavior is impossible for the affected seahorse. - Information provided by Renee Coles-Hix
